I know that choosing a complementary therapy or a therapist can seem like a daunting prospect especially without a word-of-mouth referral from a friend or family member. Perhaps the questions and answers below will help you make up your mind.
"If it's so good, why haven't I heard of it before?"
Firstly because EFT is 'new', as in only 10's of years old rather than 100's like acupuncture, homeopathy or herbalism and it takes a while for these things to establish themselves in society. Plus the fact that its really hard to 'sell' EFT to the masses because it can be used for practically every problem and let's face it, it sounds a little crazy!
"It sounds to good to be true, can it be that simple?
I thought exactly the same when I first came across EFT years ago, but I put my disbelief to one side and found that it really was as good as they said it was. Because EFT combines all the good bits from the talk therapies such as counselling and all the good bits from traditional body therapies such as acupressure/acupuncture - it really moves things on quickly.
"I don't want to spend £100's for years and years of therapy"
I don't want you to either! My vision for EFT is simple - you come to me for a few sessions (perhaps only one if its a simple phobia for example) and along the way I teach you the tapping routines and suggested phrases. So once you feel confident enough you can use the tapping at home for yourself. Of couse you can always come back to me again if you can't quite get to the bottom of a problem or need some inspiration! At that stage you also have the option of doing EFT over the telephone, whilst you tap on yourself - saving you time and money!
"I don't have much money, I am not sure I can afford it"
I am always flexible about payment plans and fees for those who really can't afford it, although I encourage everyone to pay something as it helps to formalise the healing contract between us and enables that client to come back for help if they need it, rather than feeling like they are asking for a favour. I am also up for a bartering system so if you have a skill or produce that you'd like to trade then why not ask the question.
"What if its weird and I feel uncomfortable?"
I pride myself in the fact that I am a very normal person! I think complementary therapies should be accessible to all and accepted by all. I have to admit that EFT looks odd to begin with and I embrace the fact that it is a very funny process at times. I am of course also very respectful of the the fact that some of the things we might talk about during the session may be very personal and profound for you. I always make sure that each client is fine to continue with the work we are doing and never force or pressurise the pace of each session - you must always feel 100% comfortable with your progress. In fact, although I have never had to do it this way, it is entirely possible to do an entire session without you revealing any details at all!
"I've never seen a therapies 'money-back guarantee' before, how can you offer one?"
I offer a money-back guarantee for those few people who get absolutely no improvement from a session or who feel strongly that EFT is really not for them. I believe that you should not have to pay for a therapy that does not work for you and I wouldn't feel comfortable taking money for doing nothing for you. Because EFT has a high success rate of 75-85% I am willing to take the risk of not getting paid once in a while to make sure all my clients leave having had a fulfilling experience.
"I am anxious about what to expect"
That's only natural and I felt the same way the first time someone tapped on me. I'll take a quick medical history, we'll chat about your problems or concerns, I'll explain where I am going to tap and then I'll sit beside you and tap on you. The points are on the top of the head, around the eye area, under the nose and mouth, near the collar bone and on the hand and fingers - I do not tap anywhere else on the body and you do not need to remove any clothing except perhaps your glasses! I'll keep checking on your emotional state and any thoughts or memories and then we'll keep checking where the intensity lies until it all neutralised.
"How will I feel during and after the session?"
It is impossible to guess how you as an individual will feel but some experiences that I and others have had are listed below;
- A relaxing sense of calm and comfort whilst being tapped
- 'Light-bulb' moments of insight into your problems and its causes
- Great clarity on issues that seemed confused before
- Flashes of long-forgotten memories relevant to your state today
- Significant reduction in emotional intensity
- Significant reduction in the levels of aches and pains
- An emotional release of tears or just feeling 'lighter'
- A welcome sensation of well-being or of feeling unburdened
- The definite separation of memories and their distressing emotions
- Final closure on difficult past events
- A sense of lightness or even humour when recalling 'trigger' thoughts
- Being unable to 'access' the painful details of once vivid memories
- A different way of thinking or reacting in previous 'stuck' areas
- Resolution of previously annoying and repetitive thought patterns
- A lack of fear or physical sensation when confronting phobia triggers
